Renewables

The need for renewable sources of energy is generating a fast growing industry in developing on and off shore wind farms, tidal power and biomass/biofuel. These projects need companies with the right skills and capabilities to fulfil the production and maintenance of these projects.

Wind

With a cluster of more than 20 offshore and onshore wind power projects around the Humber alone; there are a number of opportunities for companies to provide services to the sector. Key services needed are: fabrication and assembly, port and portside services, turbine maintenance, vessel operation and maintenance, turbine access and safety, and logistics.

Able UK are currently developing a £400m project to transform the south bank of the Humber whilst Associated British Ports are developing the north and investing another £100m. There are similar projects happening all over the UK.

Tidal

The Humber is home to two significant tidal energy prototype projects. Neptune Renewable Energy’s Proteus – a full-scale tidal stream demonstrator that will generate 500kW of electricity and Pulse Tidal’s marine renewable device, a 100kW test tidal power rig.

Services required range from: design and consultancy; shipbuilding and ship repair and assembly; deployment and operational support; and logistics.
