Project
To set up a business network to help Yorkshire and Humber businesses maximise their potential and compete for cross sector opportunities related to major projects such as the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Crossrail, and London Heathrow expansion.
Solution
The Square 5 team put together a business plan to deliver a range of support services to help businesses to capitalise on these major opportunities. This includes opportunity matching, training, events and communication. The team put together a website, e-newsletter, events programme and management system.
A key element to the success of the project is working with and developing strong relations with a wide range of key stakeholders including the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG), UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), Business Link and the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).
The project demonstrates how the whole range of Square 5 services can be brought together to deliver a major business support project for the region.
Result
The Yorkshire Gold Business Club was set up in March 2009 and has 100 members and has already provided business support to over 900 businesses in the region. The club has hosted a variety of events including conferences, training and a visit to the Olympic Site. Over 1,400 delegates have attended the events.
