The core aim of this project is to secure a future for a competitive and thriving Marine engineering sector on and around the Humber by increasing business growth, employment and prosperity. This will be achieved through working with the Team Humber Marine Alliance (THMA) consortium of companies and providing dedicated support through the establishment of a “Champions Team”. This team will provide market access to services relevant to the competitiveness of these marine engineering businesses including skills, accreditation and best practice. It will seek out opportunities and mentor THMA member companies to tender for major bids and contracts.

Solution

The Square 5 team put together a plan to deliver a range of services to the network. Business development, opportunity matching, capability profiling, bid support, training and signposting are all part of the package. A website was constructed and systems put in place to source, filter, match and distribute opportunities from a wide range of sources. An instrumental part of the Square 5 service is to raise awareness of the THMA with key policy makers and influencers to the supply chain such as ministerial, regional and local political bodies. We also utilise our team of associates who are specialists in their fields.

Result

Square 5 has highlighted over 1000 business opportunities to its members and indeed its membership has doubled in the last year. The team is currently working on behalf of members in the Commercial Shipping & Inland waterways, Nuclear, Defence and Oil & Gas sectors with a key focus in the burgeoning Renewables industry in order to attract business to the Humber region. This work has resulted in the profile of the members and the region being significantly raised; attracting media stories that have featured in regional broadcast and press.
